About

The Guerilla Haiku Movement is a traveling public art experience that sparks spontaneous connection through sidewalk-chalked haiku. Since 2011, it has visited over 80 cities, inviting people to write poetry inspired by their surroundings, share stories, and build community in public spaces.

Events blend creative placemaking, storytelling, reflection and dialogue—capturing each city’s voice through photos and poetry. Guerilla Haiku also partners with community organizations, schools and corporations for team-building and public engagement, using art to address critical issues and celebrate shared human experiences.

Marking our cities
With fleeting, eloquent words
We can change our world

Caley Vickerman, aka The Haiku Mistress

Educator, Actor and Poetic Enabler — I fuse teaching and creative practice, using art to inspire learning and learning to fuel art.

My work has ranged from teaching trigonometry through kite-building, to exploring immigration policy through family storytelling, to devising theater on social justice issues with teens.

Since 2011, I have led the Guerilla Haiku Movement, bringing public poetry experiences to over 80 cities nationwide, engaging schools, museums, community groups, and more.

Now based in Minneapolis, I partner with local and national organizations to spark dialogue, strengthen communities, and create change by using art to connect us.
